Managing your movies has never been easier. Mizuu Movies keeps track of all your favorite movies on your Android Honeycomb tablet (similar to Boxee or XMBC on the PC). Movies are automatically recognized and identified using IMDb with title, plot, cover art and more. All the movie information is kept in a local database on your tablet. This is perfect for travelling because you don’t need access to the Internet. You can your entire movie collection with you everywhere.

• This isn’t a media player, just an organizer, so you’ll still need to have a media player installed, or use the stock Android video player.

Features:

While Android Honeycomb devices, by their nature, are great for viewing movies, television shows and other videos, managing the collection can be a bit of a pain. You have to figure out where the device is storing the files, and while media players will find the files, they don’t give you much else. That’s where Mizuu Movies comes in.
This is a video media organizer that gives you a much richer amount of information about your media. It pulls information from the IMDB database, so you have the full description, ratings, actor information, even the ability to view the trailer in YouTube. If the app happens to pull the wrong movie data, you can even go in and change it, telling it which movie is the one you’re putting in the collection.
The only thing it does not do, unfortunately, is actually play the video files. For that, it will launch your video player of choice for actual playback. (FYI – and this has nothing to do with the app itself – but if you, like me, have a lot of iTunes digital copies you thought you could play on Android, think again. I discovered when I went to test this app, that iTunes locks down the files so they can’t be played unless you convert them to another format and strip the DRM out of the file. So if you buy a lot of Blurays with digital copies, like I do, you’ll need to find a program that will let you convert them for use on systems other than iOS. Just so you know, and don’t hold it against this app if that’s the file type you’re trying to play and it won’t work.) In the future, I would love to see an integrated playback feature added to Mizuu, since it’s leaps and bounds above any of the other media management tools on Android right now. I’d love to stay in that space to watch, as well as manage, but it’s a minor issue.
Another thing to note – this app is in active development. Just in the time I’ve been testing it, there were a few new releases with bug fixes and updates, so if you grab it and find a problem, sending it to the developer and you will get you a fast response and likely a fast fix, which is always nice to see.

Usefulness:

Mizuu makes managing your movie collection a lot easier and provides a lot of additional data that’s really great to have if you’re a movie buff. If you have a big movie collection you want to manage on your tablet, this is a must-have app.

Ease of Use:

The first time you launch Mizuu, it will automatically find all the media files on your system and add them to the database. You can also go in and tell it to update, which will essentially tell it to go look for and replace all the data again, so if you change out movies often, it’s very easy to tell Mizuu to reflect that. Pulling the IMDB data is automatic, and for me, it was right every time for every movie I tried. However, if you do manage to stump something, it’s also very easy to go in and change the movie ID so it will pull the correct information.

Frequently Used:

Again, if you’re a movie buff, this is an app you’re going to find yourself using frequently. It’s a clean interface to use, and the extra information makes managing your movie collection on your device a dream.

Interface:

In the paid version, there are several different themes to choose from, although I found I liked the basic Mizuu look best, myself. Your collection shows up with the movie covers, and from there, when you choose a title, it will show the cover and all the data associated with it, along with buttons to play the movie or view the trailer. The menu options are easy to navigate, and overall, the app is clean and does exactly what it says it will do.

Should you Download Mizuu Movies? Yes! If you watch movies on your tablet, this is a must-have app. The developer is incredibly responsive and adding new features and bug fixes all the time, so even if you have a problem with it, contact her and you’ll get a fast response. I’m personally hoping a media player will be in a future version down the road, but you can’t get a better movie management app for Android right now.
