UEFA Champions League Edition is a new app which provides scores, fixtures, pictures and results from this season’s big European football (soccer) competition. The app itself is very smooth and well developed and aims to give fans the most up-to-date news and information regarding the event and various teams involved.

Pros & Cons:
Pros- Ability to follow certain teams and get live notifications concerning those teams.
- Regularly updated information and live scores.
- Large gallery of pictures from past fixtures.
- Really nice layout.
- Easy to use.
- Lacks much in the way of comprehensive team information. While this isn’t a huge problem, fans of teams who have to play some of the smaller teams will have to look elsewhere for information on their opponents.
- Pictures in the Photos section are very low resolution, the pictures in the news stories actually look better!
Features:
The UEFA Champions League has recently started, with some of the smaller teams fighting it out for qualification to the full event. With a long and exciting road ahead before the final on 19th of May 2012 in Munich, UEFA have released a comprehensive and smart app for fans to follow the coverage on the go.The main menu of the app is also the main starting screen, where you have a five-pronged choice of: Matches, Clubs, News, Photo’s and Favourites. Once in the app itself, these tabs can be found at the top of the sub-menu screens for easy navigation.
Beneath ‘Matches’ you have a list of the most recent match results, or those being played. You can tab back to see previous results or forward to see upcoming fixtures. Both transitions are smooth and straightforward. Each match can be tapped and the main highlights of the match, squads, scorers, cards and substitutions are displayed, giving you a quick update of match events. This is really useful and gives you a speedy glimpse of what occurred during the match. Also on this screen are two extended buttons; Calendar and Standings. The Calendar will show dates for the rounds as they progress, up to the final on the 19th of May. Standings, when the full tournament begins, will show the various mini-leagues of the Champions League group stages. I should add all these screens are incredibly smooth, intuitive and easy to use.
‘Clubs’ list the competing teams involved in the tournament. You can click on these teams to view their previous matches and favourite them by ticking a star. Sadly there isn’t much information on the clubs- no squad lists or numbers, scorers or manager names, no stadium names, etc. This is terrifically disappointing for such an otherwise informative application.
The ‘News’ presents a list of news related to the competing clubs. Check this out for regular updates on new signings, upcoming fixture news and club statements. This is probably the most polished feature of the app- of which most is very good. The stories are informative and relevant and usually come with some good photographs. The pictures here are actually far better than those in the main photo gallery. The news is official UEFA fare, so a bit diluted and lacking much in the way of opinion, relying very much on facts and events. However, as the app goes it’s a very well done and polished feature.
‘Photos’ is a small gallery view of pictures taken during recently played matches. Each pic has a small explanation. Sadly, these pictures appear to be very low resolution and not particularly great, I’m unsure why this is but it kind of puts a dampener on this feature. Oddly, the news section photos are bright, clear and much higher resolution so it’s strange that the actual gallery is so poor. Hopefully this will improve with future updates.

Usefulness:
Once the tournament gets underway properly, the app will regularly update on each match day, allowing you to follow each game in-app. After, you will get match reports and related stories in addition to pictures and reactions. While the big teams await the conclusion of the qualifiers, this might not be of significant interest to most, unless you’re a big fan of teams like KRC Genk or APOEL FC. However, when the competition starts properly, this will be the go-to app on Android for all the news and action.Ease of Use:
The app is incredibly easy to use. Very fast, intuitive and responsive to taps, UEFA Champions League Edition is very user-friendly and simple to navigate.Frequently Used:
If you team are taking part this app is definitely worth checking every few days, especially when the tournament kicks off. My team didn’t qualify,Interface:
As has been touched on already the interface is very smooth and easy to use. The menus, sub-menus and settings are simple to find and navigate to.AndroidTapp.com Rating

( out of 5)Should you Download UEFA Champions League Edition? For fans of the game this is an essential download, enabling you to get all the information you want about the tournament and teams which are featuring within it. There are always twists and turns in this globally admired competition, and this official app should cater for all your needs. Sadly the photos in the gallery section is quite poor quality and the team information is scant and lacking, but I feel this could be updated to include some good information. Some small tweaks could make for a far better and comprehensive experience.
